High Five for Friday!

You know that feeling where you are extremely excited and extremely nervous at the same time? This is the feeling I am currently having about leaving for my trip. Kelly and I went shopping the other day for a few last things we needed: a tarp, bug spray, cooking fuel etc… however we managed to get side tracked, putting on ridiculous hats (LED lights in the brim people) and didn't get what we needed at all. I think it’s one part denial of it being so soon and one part that we can go anywhere and get anything done. Did I mention that we did end up leaving Costco with 4 pounds of Nutella? We know what is important in life, clearly. I have had a pretty lack lustre week of just prepping and not getting anything on my To Do list complete so here we go, some highlights from my week:

1.       I bought baseball tickets for the minor league team in Vancouver and they were tickets for any game of the year so I went with my parents, drove all the way there and the game turned out to be sold out! Oh well, there is a beautiful park across the street so we went for a nice walk and enjoyed the fresh air!

2.       I have been YouTube obsessed over Nicole Guerriero – I find myself telling Mike I’m going to bed at 9 and then end up watching her tutorials or haul videos until 11 at night. One day I will have watched them all and that will be a very sad day my friends.

3.       This week was all about the make-up - my boss gave me a really nice set of make-up! and then I decided that I needed a new brush from Sephora and spent way too much but I couldn't be happier! I bought the Urban Decay Naked Foundation (it goes on amazingly), I got the Pore-fessional Primer from Benefit, the actual foundation brush I needed from Sephora #58 and a really nice nude lippy from the Sephora line.

4.       Dinner with my friend, KP! She seems to be making it in these lists quite a lot but we had dinner on the weekend together and it was so nice to enjoy good food and lots of laughs!

5.       Lastly, the best thing about my week? Probably having my best friend back in town! I say it as if she lives in a far off distance place, not true, she is too cool for school and lives down town however, she’s doing some housesitting so we are back to carpooling to work together, really bad singing and being overloaded with Starbucks which is always good in my books, amirite?

Well this weekend is going to be a busy one! Mike and I will be going to the PNE which will be full of junk food, petting zoos and fun! So I'm excited and then it will be off to go on my trip! It’s a little nerve-racking having to pack a backpack full of things you’ll need for a week including food and equipment and making sure you don’t forget anything. I am the worst packer to begin with so this should be great.
I won’t be posting for about 2 weeks but hope you all have a great end of summer and see you soon!

All in a Clumsy Day's Work

This is why I can’t have nice things. I was cleaning the carpets in my place last night (me cleaning, I know right?) and the cord got stuck on the back of a chair so I was trying to swing it off as all lazy people do when you are 4 steps away but refuse to move any closer to fix the situation. Well, I got the cord free and then it took out my little giraffe guys with it. Sadly, this isn’t the first time this little sculpture has broken; I accidentally decapitated the tall giraffe while bringing it home from Africa in my backpack. Mike's Grandpa did some surgery on the little stone guy and pieced it back together but once a klutz, always a klutz. That’s the sad thing too, I can’t just go to a Target or Homesense to replace this thing – I would have to go back to AFRICA! It’s a little more than a hop skip and a jump away.

I just started this blog and I am already getting behind on some projects that I’ve started (surprise, surprise). As I mentioned before, I’m leaving to do the Westcoast Trail this weekend so all my shopping and spending has been going towards hiking boots and powdered soup not cute clothes, make-up and craft supplies. I doubt that any of you would like to read about the equipment I’m packing for the trip like first aid kits and sleeping bags or the shopping spreeI did at Mountain Equipment Co-op so hang tight and things will be back to normal in no time, well as normal as they get.

In the meantime, I am leaving you with this. I saw this recently at a seven eleven where I was buying too much ice cream for one person some thing healthy and I noticed this new bag of chips. It's the contest that Lays has to find a new flavour but isn't this the most stereotypical Canadian bag of chips? Don't get me wrong, I love me some poutine as much as the next person, I just think it's hilarious.

High Five for Friday!

Happy Friday Everyone!

This week went by incredibly fast since it was a short work week for those of us in BC! I can’t wait until this weekend since my softball team has our last tournament of the season, I'm going to see Lady Gaga in Vancouver and the best of all there will be sunshine the whole time!

Here are a few of the highlights from my past week:

1.       Came back from Hornby Island and can’t wait to go back! You can read (mostly see) all about it in my Hornby Post – as you may notice, Kelly and I were wearing lots of tie dye during the trip! We did it ourselves the day before we left and I am going to post about how we did it in a few days

2.       I am gearing up for the Westcoast Trail which is in two weeks (yikes!) by doing weighted hikes as much as I can and getting lots of fresh air! And by that I mean I get sweaty in the hot sunshine and have been living in workout clothes.

3.       Had coffee with my girlfriends - one of them, my friend KP, has an amazing baking blog so check it out! It is drool worthy! Have you guys tried the Peach Green Tea Lemonade at Starbucks? It’s a new fave for me especially since dairy and hot summer weather doesn't mix well in my book!

4.       It was my parents 30th anniversary and my dad’s birthday this week as well so congrats to them!! My mom posted this picture to celebrate and all I can say is nice ‘stache Jeff

5.       Lastly, I finally got my hands on the Oryx and Crake Trilogy and have started reading the first one, Oryx and Crake. I read the book in University for a Canadian Lit class and absolutely loved it –it’s a bit apocalyptic but with bits of humour as well. I highly recommend it!

Hornby Island 2014

I haven't posted for a week or so and that is mostly because I was on Hornby Island living the hippy lifestyle. Going to the beach everyday, wearing tie dye for every outing and, you know, not washing your hair - c'mon I was on vacation.

This trip was amazing - we went to a winery where the wine wasn't that great, but the company made it worth it. We kept it class though of course - if there wasn't a wine we didn't like, we drank it as fast as possible and moved to the next. Pure class for us, right? We also went to a music festival with latin music and I was instantly flown to Mexico. The setting was excellent and there was hula hoops for everyone to use; as you can see, I took full advantage of them. The Farm, as they called it, stretched along the water front and was full of yellow grass and beautiful arbutus trees. We also headed to a farmers market one morning with the best cinnamon buns, homemade jams and the best treats on the island. Kelly got a mango on a stick and I got chocolate banana on a stick covered with pecans! Let's just say I didn't post a picture of it because well... it didn't look quite right.

I had an amazing time and I can't wait to go back! The fresh air, the salt water and the starry night really helps you reset your system. I returned home relaxed, refreshed and way more tanned ;)
